Cromarty

A lovely sunny day so after a trip to the Puffin Pool we went to up to Cromarty. We picked up a Pizza from Sutor Creek and drove down to the Shore and sat and ate it looking at the Sutors. Delicious, definitely the best pizzas around :)
The owner ordered some of David's books which will be on sale in their sister shop 'Cooper Creek' so after Mike made some phone calls from home we went back. Mananged to pick up some blue egg boxes ready for Brownies on the way and then went in hunt for St Regulus Graveyard which has the nickname of the Pirates Graveyard because of th number of grave stones that are carved with skulls and cross bones.
The Graveyard is tucked away down an unmarked path opposite the long tunnel which leads Cromarty House. There are several table graves one belong, one pair for Alexander Davidson and his three wifes. Another grave is carved with the name of the 'Burnt Cook' which children are said to spit at when they pass. The saddest one is for Hugh and Lydia Millers young daughter , Eliza who died of a fever at just 17 months. Her headstone was the last stone that Hugh carved.A crypt of the Urquharts lies in the middle with steps leading down to it and their crest above the doorway. Probably the best stone lies on it's side by the entrance, one of the oldest in the graveyard dating from 1675. The skull and crossbones are present and a super carving of a tall ship with sails
One grave lies outside the fence belonging to Sandy Wood.He died in 1690. After a violent argument with a neighbour he asked to be buried outside the graveyard so that on the day of judgement he could be first in front of God so that he could give his side of the story before his neighbour.
As always the graveyard was full of wildlife including robins, chaffinch and woodpeckers.
