Boys (and Men) and Steam Trains

I took my D700 to a Nikon Service Centre for a sensor clean and check up prior to selling. As I had to kill a couple of hours I visited Rudyard Lake, nr Leek.

Here you see the Rudyard Lake Steam Railway (RLSR) and father and son marvelling in the wonder of steam. When I was training 30+ years ago part of my course included the design and maintenance of Lancashire and Cornish Boilers. I haven't seen an example in working order for 20 years! How times change.

And just in case you were wondering, Rudyard Kipling was named after the lake after his parents visited just before he was born.

The lake was bult to feed the local canal network. I last visited it three years ago when I walked passed it on the Staffordshire Way on a three day charity walk.
