Olympic Heroes Return - Pink Power

The Olympic heroes returned to Henley this morning for a row past the town, an open top bus tour of Henley, after which they threw pink hippos - the trademark of Leander Club - to the crowds. Chocolate Olympic medals were given out, short speeches and the Olympians mingled and chatted with the crowd.

Here you can see members of the gold medalling men's eight and Vicky Thornley who won silver with Katherine Grainger throwing their pink hippos to the crowds.

Tom was booked on an Open Day at Newcastle Uni, so sadly missed out, but his teammates formed the guard of honour for the Olympians. He wasn't too sad saying 'but I see them all the time, mum' - missing the point, Tom, missing the point….. still hopefully all will go well at Newcastle. He's meeting their Italian rowing coach whom it turns out knew his Uncle Paolo when he rowed for Italy in his youth… small world.
