Late summer holiday :-))
The plan had been to be driving away from the house at 1.30pm but we usually always run two hours late when leaving to go on holiday so when we drove away at 3.30pm in my mind we were bang on time. That’s what’s known as D&D logic in our house.
We may have missed going to France this year but I’ll tell you something, we certainly didn’t miss the long journey. Just over three hours after leaving home we arrived at our destination – Kielder Water and Forest Park, Northumberland. The weather was horrendous but we didn’t care, we were on holiday at last.
We got checked into our chalet and within minutes it became clear there was no wifi, infact there was no telephone signal at all. I stared at the words “no service” on my phone as it sank in that there would be no access to Blip, Facebook, emails, google, WhatsApp for a whole week. As the meaning of that sank in a smile crept across my face. Peace perfect peace
.
First job was to give Alan a tour of the chalet so he knew where he was sleeping. It was such a pleasure turning at up holiday accommodation and not have to move things around to make it more accessible for Alan. The whole place is geared up to meet his needs. Spacious accommodation, wet floor bathroom, electric bed, tracking hoist, even doors from his bedroom onto a spacious balcony with views over Kielder Forest.
Ed and Elaine arrived around 8.30pm. They’re in Chalet 6 and we’re in Chalet 9 so we’re not too far from each other.
It was quite late by the time we had tea and as we were all bushed, the lure of bed was irresistible. Coupled with the joy of actually sleeping in a bed and not on a sofa, I was out like a light.
