Marble House

And, it is indeed entirely made of marble. This is yet another of the Vanderbilt mansions, in Newport, Rhode Island. Very dark inside to conserve the fixtures & fittings, so all the lights are on. And they are stupendous. We also visited The Breakers,another enormous Vanderbilt mansion. But after amassing a fortune, the grandchildren squandered it and had no business sense, and taxes were introduced, so the family fortune built on railroads dwindled and none of the current Vanderbilys is wealthy, apparently.
