Abyss.
Today I went to see the limestone caves. Looking at a map they are within cycling distance, but since I don't have a bike it was a train, a bus and a walk.
Note to self: The platform number is irrelevant, you need to know the track number....
The trains are comfy and there are lots of screens telling you lots of confusing information about where you have just been, and even more confusing information about where you are going.
The buses want you to climb on in front and pay the driver and once you arrive they want you to leave by the back door.
The walk in the woods was lovely.
The caves are amazing. All the stalagmites and stalactites you could wish for, beautiful rock formations and an underground river. The boat ride on the river was a treat because I got to sit next to the Czech who was acting as interpreter for the Austrian tourists on the trip, so I got English, German and Czech commentaries.
This is the abyss, which is basically a cave with the roof fallen in. The catastrophe happened about 350 million years ago, so I shouldn't think anyone got hurt.
To give you a sense of scale the upper observation deck is just visible in the upper left corner.
The Czechs have a sense of the dramatic, when you walk out of the tunnel entrance into this vast space an excellent sound system starts playing a piece of choral music. You then learn that the cave behind is called 'The Cathedral'.
I safely reversed the journey and was home before five, I am now relaxed with a cider and considering work tomorrow.
Hey-ho.
