New Castle Lachlan
I have pictured the Old Castle Lachlan before and that sits on one side of a small estuary. Further upstream is the new castle.
The old castle was destroyed by British forces in the 18th century following the 1745 rising, but the new castle rose on a different , but adjacent, site and was originally in the Queen Anne style though it was later remodelled into a classic Victorian baronial house.
The new castle lies in a designed landscape on the edge of Loch Fyne and even today's mist and drizzle did not detract from the striking beauty of the place.
We were there to have lunch at the exceptional and imaginative Inver restaurant from which both castles are visible.
