Board riders in Gloucester Docks

Helena has not felt well for the last two days, so we had to cancel the visit of Rosie, my sister, today. We had planned to have lunch with her and then go to visit Gloucester and its docks. As it happened I needed to visit an office supply company on the outskirts of the city to check on some prices, so we decided to go there anyway and make a quick detour to the docks.

The weather was sunny and warm when we set off at midday, but coming out of the shop on a bleak trading estate we were greeted by clouds covering up the blue sky, and that was that for the sunshine. Once we had parked by the docks we decided to visit a small cafe on the quayside rather than one of the larger bars or restaurants.  I had a strong coffee and we both sat watching a few boats coming and going and other visitors walking around the open water surrounded by the old warehouses.

From my seat I could look straight across to the north side which is where I saw these two people paddling their surfboards through the dock.  A couple of minutes alter they reached a jetty where they landed, took their boards out of the water and then walked to the far side of the lock which linked to the River Severn and they carried on paddling up it out of the city in the direction of Tewkesbury. We then left as well to drive home, once Helena had found out about a possible boat trip that we might go on with Rosie next Sunday, when we hope she will come to visit us instead.
