Life is the art of being well deceived.
It's that time of year for me - white coats, pokes and prods, needles - the general niceties that accompany one's physical. I can't say I've made an annual habit of it, but as someone who's relatively healthy, I feel I deserve a pass. The waiting room was frigid, as medical establishments tend to be, so I went outside with my buzzer (very high tech!) to tour the grounds and thaw.
This little butterfly happened to pass by, and when it first landed my senses went askew! It took me a couple hard looks and removing my sunglasses to see that the streamers on the back wings weren't in fact antennae, and the bright color wasn't the head of this deceptive creature. It went so far as to move the wings back and forth, just like wiggling antennae!
In fact, it took a couple shots to even get the little bugger from the side! It would notice me and turn around so the fake antennae faced my mobile. Must have gotten tired of waiting for it's nectar dinner, because eventually it gave up the ruse.
What a win for Mother Nature and her camouflage!
