Breakthrough

Look carefully and you will see the trees on Calton Hill through the gap between hoarding and scaffolding.

Trees which until now have not been visible from here, at the entrance to St John's Pend on the Canongate. But the developers have taken out a tenement opposite to create a new vennel, or possibly pend (it is hard to see whether they have removed the whole tenement or just the bottom two storeys).
