Nanda Devi Base Camp

Most of today was spent above 4,000m, under the swirling clouds of Nanda Devi East (see extra) picking our way through very tough terrain. We started vertically from the camp as one of the porters had spotted a Lamergyer or Bearded Vulture. He was eating a very old carcass of a goat. But today's real treat was a distant herd of Bharal or Blue Sheep hence this blip, I shall probably never see these again. A few minutes before or after this was taken, we would not have seen them.

We have also set the first of several remote cameras, hoping to catch a snow leopard going past one day. Theo, our guide will be placing cameras in several valleys before the winter comes. Our group's contribution towards snow leopard conservation has started.
