Brig o' Dee

Having posted a photo of a bridge over the Dee a couple of days ago here is another one. The Bridge of Dee was the first bridge over the Dee built in 1527. It has been substantially altered and widened over the centuries, but I believe elements of the original remain in the present structure.

It is narrow for the standards of today, just allowing two cars to pass side by side. It is the main road into Aberdeen from the South, though prohibited to trucks etc. which have to take a detour to a more modern bridge further east, and then back track to the main road. The bridge is something of a bottleneck which will remain until a bypass is built. A new road has been much vaunted over the years, but objectors have so far managed to prevent it being realised.

My intention today had been to take some photographs of the animals in Hazlehead Park, however the majority seemed to be happy to sleep in the sun and enjoy the weather. I will have to go back another time. There was a heron in the pond when I arrived, however just as I got there it took off, did a couple of circuits of the pond, and went and settled in a tree.
