High and dry -

but only for another half hour - the tide rushes up here to Gloucester and then back again incredibly quickly - it is the area of the Severn Bore. Navigation is very dangerous and really only possible on spring tides -that  is why the 16 mile long Sharpness Canal was built and completed in 1827 at a cost of £440,000 ( £240,000 more than estimated!)
