Downward-Facing Jay

It's back to our Gentle Yoga class tomorrow for the autumn 12-week session... there may be a little moaning tomorrow evening!

I've learned to love Downward-Facing Dog, much to my surprise, and hope that one day my hamstrings relax enough for me to put my feet on the floor. (Do watch the video...)

Given the slightly rakish triangular crest on this Steller's Jay's head, I'd be willing to wager it's the same one I blipped on a rainy day in late August! You can learn more about them here -- for example, "...[they] were discovered on an Alaskan island in 1741 by Georg Steller, a naturalist on a Russian explorer's shop. When a scientist officially described the species, in 1788, they named it after him -- along with other discoveries, including the Steller's sea lion and Steller's Sea-Eagle."

And here are a couple more interesting tidbits from that website: "The Steller's Jay and the Blue Jay are the only New World jays that use mud to build their nests." "The Steller's Jay can  imitate birds, squirrels, cats, dogs, chickens, and some mechanical objects."

Amaze your friends with those cool facts!
