Symmetry

She was beautiful. Women envied her and men, when questioned, agreed that, yes, she was beautiful. But, having paused to evaluate and confirm her beauty, their eyes moved on to other, less perfect but somehow more engaging sights. She was extravagantly beautiful but she was not overly attractive.

One day, looking over her shoulder as she adjusted her make-up, I was struck by the sense of something that I couldn't put into words. Eventually, I realised what it was. She looked exactly the same in the mirror as she did when viewed directly.

Exactly the same.

Her face was perfectly symmetrical.
