Day Eighteen - Cuenca

We got up for breakfast this morning at 9am, had our free granola, fruit and yoghurt (a bit too much watermelon for me!!)

We headed out into Cuenca to walk along the river that ran through the city. It was very pretty and the weather was okay for us so it was a really lovely walk. We walked past a rather sad looking empty nature reserve with sprinklers but no evidence of animals! At the end, we hit a main road, so turned around and did the same route backwards!!

We'd found a nice place called Cafe Nucallacta, so we followed our maps to the supposed destination but the cafe wasn't there! Fortunately there was another lovely cafe in its place where we had two hot drinks and four empanadas for $8!! We left and had a quick look at the church directly behind it, quite impressive but there wasn't enough made of it!!

We wandered back to the main square for some photos in the sunshine, it was very pretty with palm trees and beautiful colonial buildings.

Back at the hostel we watched a bit of Netflix and relaxed for a bit (crazy how tiring this travelling malarkey is!!) We went back down to the bar for happy hour again, had a couple of drinks and got ready for dinner, we'd found the number one place on TripAdvisor and it was right next to our hostel.

When we went in, we immediately realised it was rather posh! That said, it was amazing food and we actually didn't end up paying extortionately! I had some lamb with dauphinois potato and we shared and upside down cheesecake which was great!!

We headed back to our hostel to pack up our bags, ready for an early start to Montanita the next morning.
