Day Twenty - Montanita
We had a lazy morning this morning, getting up around 10am. We hung around in the hostel until we could move into our private room at 11, which was really nice! It was at the back of the hostel backing onto the road, but was big and spacious and had a mosquito net over the bed.
We then headed down 'Breakfast Street' (further up the road from cocktail alley!) for a toastie and a smoothie. We chose poorly, and our cheese and ham toasties ended up being unbuttered toast with a slice of ham and cheese. It was okay, but not great!! We then wandered down to the beach, but it was rather cloudy, so not great to sit out and sunbathe in! We had a look at some of the surf places on the beachfront to maybe get lessons at later on in the week.
For lunch, we went to this great Italian place and had huge pasta dishes each and a cheeky cocktail, the frozen strawberry daiquiri was great! Back at the hostel, we sat down to do some trip planning. We sent out a few emails to places for the Galapagos trips and reworked our itinerary to include a nice long stay in Montanita.
That evening, we joined up with the German girls, the Aussie guy and some French guys and went to this place in town that did $3 2 course meals. It was pretty interesting. I had a fish soup with a huge lump of fish in it with lots of bones (which I couldn't finish as it was so big!) and some calamari and rice with a bean and lentil sauce. I'm assuming it was typical Ecuadorian food and it was okay, but a bit odd, and having eaten lunch late, we weren't hugely hungry!
We went back and had some drinks at the hostel bar, which didn't taste too strong!! It was one of the hostel workers birthday so there was cake and balloons and shots which was good! We were exhausted again and we're going to bother going out afterwards, but once everyone was about to leave, we decided to go out for one to see what the fuss was all about - especially as it was Saturday! We all sat in the street on plastic chairs around a pop up wooden shack and got cocktails. They were quite strong admittedly but the whole idea of sitting in the street was quite bizarre!
We hung around for a while and then me and Brendan got a $2 burger from a stand (which was amazing!!) and headed back to the hostel to bed.
