Sport is in the air

Starting the Olympic backblips:

Copacabana in the early morning is special, and with the Olympics just six days away, beach volleyball takes on a whole new meaning. Our guests were only due to arrive this evening, so I had time to appreciate it all

And what to expect of our guests? Two lads from Hawaii – would they be pot-smoking surfers? But no. the younger one arrived first, and as we sat and chatted, he asked if his friend had told us what they did. It turns out that they’re both missionaries, working at a YWAM training centre in Hawaii, not quite what we expected.

Well, even missionaries need food and drink, so we went down the road for some dinner and caipirinhas. About to stop for gelatos on the way back, we remembered that his friend was due to arrive. Sure enough, he was just reaching the gate just as we crossed the road. Then for another surprise - he’s not from the States at all, but Korean by birth and brought up by his adoptive parents in Norway.

I think we’ve been very lucky in our guests – these two lads are quietly charming.
