Kigali - First Impressions
Yesterday was spent travelling from Joburg to Kigali. It was all very seamless apart from the lack of updated information in OR Tambo airport about gates and a gate change for our flight. It felt like a private jet of sorts because there were probably only about 40 passengers. Quite a few got off at Bujumbura in Burundi and then it was only a 25 minutes flight to Kigali. We flew over Lake Tanganyika but there was so much smoke around it was hard to see it. Have you all got that song going through your heads now. We had to wait about 20 minutes on the tarmac because we had arrived early and it was peak hour in Kigali International airport and there was only one bus. I just have to keep reminding myself we are on African time now.
First Impressions of the city is of a sprawling town clinging to hills. Lots of military around (for security purposes with trouble in Congo) and lots of people walking, on motor bikes and in cars both of left and right hand drive. They do seem to drive mainly on the right here though. This was snapped in the centre of the city just before we got to our hotel. We met up with the rest of the tour group for dinner last night and today is going to be spent seeing the sights of Kigali.
