Chuffed

For the effort it took to get to this standpoint I was very chuffed however the Flying Scotsman was travelling tender first which slightly took the edge off the shot but still I got it crossing the Victoria Bridge crossing the River Severn.

Built in Doncaster (why is that no surprise? 0;) ) leaving the yard on 24 February 1923, designed by Sir Nigel Gresley and made famous by the British Empire Exhibition.

Different from other locomotives at the time in that it was given a new type of tender that had a corridor running through it which meant crews could come and take over the work without stopping the train. It was this revolutionary design that meant a non stop journey from London to Edinburgh was possible in 8 hours.

It clocked 100mph being the first ever loco to have reached that speed, and just standing beside that massive power horse I could fully understand how it had done this. Standing on a platform yesterday and today I really was overwhelmed by the numbers of people wanting to get on, get THAT shot, and just stand and stare - what a beast!!

There was a slight accident today. An elderly gent whom I met in the carpark had lost his wife! She had got on to take some photos and had been whisked away to Kidderminster! 'Married 59 years!'  he said as he sadly looked at me at his dilemma. If you ever see Hubs putting me on a train ........
