PART OF NORTH EAST CULTURE?
Quiet morning then walked down to the village to go to the bank, Tesco and Post Office. I posted some goodies for Becky's birthday. It was raining and rather chilly.
Later on I went to Slimming Group ( it was still raining ). Weight stayed the same this week.
The Mono Monday challenge is " cultural". So is Greggs part of North East culture?. It certainly seems like it. Their shops seem to be everywhere. My shot shows the shop in my village. Today was a special day as you can tell by the balloons. They have been closed for a couple of weeks for a re-fit and opened again this morning. You can see a schoolboy coming out of the shop - it appears to be a magnet for schoolchildren - they pop down from the local Comprehensive at lunchtime and then again when they have finished school for the day. Steak bake anyone?
Greggs is the largest bakery chain in the United Kingdom. It specialises in savoury products such as pasties, sausage rolls and sandwiches ( including those made using stotties - a local favourite ) and sweet items including doughnuts and vanilla slices. Recently they have started selling healthier options including pots of fruit. The headquarters are in Newcastle. Greggs bakery started in 1939 and the first shop was opened in 1951. Originally growing regionally from its North East base Greggs began to acquire other regional bakery chains across the rest of the country from the 1970s onwards. At the moment there are over 16,000 outlets. Thanks to Ingeborg for hosting this challenge. She came up with some interesting themes this month.
