...a basket acting as

a master salt

intriguing right? i always find these kinds of things fascinating - i collect salts - back in the day - salt & pepper shakers weren't around - instead they had what were called 'salts' or 'salt cellars' to hold salt - in them on tables for people - if folks were really affluent, they might have - master salts like this one which would be at the head of the table - generally it would have a tiny spoon in it - which i left out 'cuz i didn't want to detract from the beauty - of this basket today - this particular specimen was made in germany - all those tiny flowers handmade & applied - it probably dates to around 1890 - 1900 - it's one of the fanciest in my collection - clearly it makes my day...
