Scary Fairy

Is it any wonder children have trouble learning to read when words like 'scary' and 'fairy' which rhyme, have very different spelling patterns? 
I do enjoy teaching phonics, though. Today was pretty special as the children discovered that blending 3 sounds together makes an actual word!! Yay!
The scary fairy was looking at me from her position above the fireplace while I sat here doing some work. Another emergency blip.
