We spent the day in the National World War 1 Museum here in Kansas City.
You enter the museum by walking on a glass bridge over 9,000 red poppies, each representing 1,000 lives lost in the war, for a total of 9 million military deaths from 1914 to 1918. It was very sobering, and the museum does an excellent job of explaining the culture, economics, and politics of the time, as well as each battle, with pictures, videos, artifacts, and sounds.
Just behind the museum is the WW1 Memorial built in 1926. It is a tower that rises up to 217 ft (66m). This is a view from the top looking north with Union Station in the foreground. The still active train station was built in 1914, the year WW1 began.
Lots of history here...will we learn from it?
