Hodge Close Quarry
It was an early start for us today as we had booked a one day workshop with Melvin Nicholson Photography.
The hotel were very accommodating and arranged an early breakfast for us at 7am.
We met Melvin and his assistant, photographer Chris Beard, at 9am at Blea Tarn. It was pouring down so it was full waterproofs on and we headed into the woods. It was a good morning despite the rain. Few extras: first two taken in the woods and the second Blea Tarn with the Langdale Pikes shrouded in clouds in the background.
We were all pretty soaked by lunchtime and were pleased when Melvin said we were heading to the Three Shires Inn in Little Langdale for lunch. I had a wonderful ploughmans lunch and shandy to wash it down. Why is it that so few pubs seem to do a traditional ploughmans these days?!
It was a real day of contrasts as by the time we headed over to Hodge Close Quarry the sun was out and it turned into a beautiful afternoon, as you can see in this photo taken from the top of the quarry overlooking the surrounding fells.
A really good day was had by all. Both Melvin and Chris were true professionals; on hand throughout the day to offer guidance and support and they made it a really fun day. Four friends in the group were already booked on Melvin's Skye workshop in November and they twisted my arm (ok, it didn't need much twisting!) to join them! Can't wait! :-)
