Stanley Park

My brother and sister-in-law kindly bought us year passes for the Vancouver Aquarium, so today we decided to pay it a visit. I can sometimes be sceptical about places such as zoos and aquariums but in this instance,I did not need to worry.

The Vancouver Aquarium also acts as a rehabilitation centre for many injured animals and animals who have been abandoned by their mothers, and therefore, need extra special care. Many can be released back into the wild, but some are never ready and would not survive without the Aquarium. Other animals are part of studies to help researchers who aim to improve the health and safety of particular animals by learning about certain aspects of their behaviour and development. The trainers have an incredible relationship with the animals which is built on trust, and their remarkable bond is very clear to see. The aquarium provides its visitors with lots of information, not only about the animals, and about what they do, but also in relation to how everyday people can help. A quote from Sir David Attenborough that stuck with me stated 'no-one will protect what they don't care about, and no one will care about what they have never experienced.' I believe this is very true and that through opening people's eyes to these animals, it can inspire them to want to protect them.

The highlight of the visit for me was the sea otters, who were absolutely beautiful! One can be pictured in the extra pictures of the day. I smiled so much watching them.

After our visit we took a walk back through Stanley Park, which we cannot get enough of. It is so pretty, especially when the sun is shining. We even saw a raccoon, which was just the icing on the cake for our animal filled day! He was also very beautiful and can also be pictured in the extra pictures of the day.

I appreciate this has been a very long post. Well done if you made it to the end!
