A Grain Cathedral
I took this picture of a grain store on the opposite river bank from our hotel in Lawrence first thing, as I wasn't sure I'd get a chance to take any more shots during the day. I was right.
It could have all gone so horribly wrong. We were travelling from Kansas City to Boston with a change at La Guardia in New York, with 90 minutes between flights. We arrived at Kansas City airport only to find that our flight was, you've guessed it, 90 minutes late. That meant we would miss our connection in NY to Boston. We made enquiries and there were two later flights from NY we could have got, but both were fully booked. We could hope that someone didn't turn up so we would get on as a standby but otherwise we were going to be stuck in La Guardia overnight. The flight from NY to Boston we thought we would miss was scheduled for 6.00pm and we landed from Kansas at 5.55pm, and had to get to a different terminal. A quick enquiry showed that our connecting flight was delayed and was now on final boarding, so we got the shuttle bus over and sprinted to the gate! We just managed to catch it, but knew there was no way that our checked luggage would have done so too.
We arrived in Boston with the hope that our cases might be on the next flight but we went to the baggage reclaim first, and lo and behold, our cases came through! How La Guardia managed to get them onto the plane when we only just managed it ourselves I'll never know. The Boston flight had taken off late but the pilot made up time and we ended up at Boston only ten minutes behind schedule!
Too late to go for a meal so after a quick wash dinner was a couple of beers in 'Cheers' and a bag of Honey, Mustard and Onion Pretzels. Yummy!
The Wi-fi at the hotel doesn't seem to work well so I may well end up back-blipping this.
