Vine vs. tree

I went for a short walk towards Duddingston Village tonight. It's green and quiet there, apart from cars zipping past, way too fast for such a twisting road. Keeping my eyes open for potential blips, all of a sudden I noticed this unusual vine, creeping up the tree to grab a branch stump like a hidden skeleton's hand!
