Science Weekend

A fun day today. In the morning I took Ellis and Inge to their violin lessons. After that, we visited my parents while Martine was watching Nienke's hockey game. We then met again in Bedum for shoe shopping. End result: all five of us now have new shoes.

In the afternoon I took Inge to the Science Weekend at UMCG, the hospital where I am working. The 3D lab, where we watched a 3D model of a heart, with the possibility to turn the heart around and zoom in and out using gestures made with our hands in the air. The image shows Inge looking at the heart. Inge also virtually set foot on Ameland with 3D glasses. It was fun watching her. She also tried pipetting and we looked at tiny worms under a microscope. I also wanted to try the 'ageing machine' where a computer would transform a photo of your face into a 72 year old version of you. Unfortunately there was a very long waiting line and we would have to wait for about an hour and that would mean we would not be able to see that much of the other things, so we skipped that. Inge brought home a kit and instructions to extract DNA from a banana. That ought to be fun as well!

Tomorrow the Science Weekend continues on other locations in Groningen so we might go again!
