On Clean Pond

Autumn in full swing on Chisty Prudy (or 'clean pond').  Once upon a time it was known as 'dirty pond' when local residents threw waste into the water.  The pond was cleaned up by a local benefactor in the early 18th century and henceforth the rather unimaginative name. Interesting to see how little has changed since this image taken almost a hundred years ago.
