21c Hotel Museum

Hotel 21c in Cincinnati is one of the six locations, the concept was started in 2006 in Louisville. There was a couple that didn't want the art that they loved and had purchased to sit in a closet or garage anymore. They wanted to put it somewhere that other people could enjoy the beauty and hard work that the artists had put in. The museum is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week no matter what. I included some pictures that are from the lobby museum of the Cincinnati location. There is a chandelier that hangs outside of the entrance of the hotel but is connected to the inside through the bell that the employees ring which intern makes the chandelier "breathe". There is another picture of a statue that is made out of encyclopedias that was pretty cool. Next, there is a black and white photo followed by a photo that looks like film... if you take a picture of the black and white and use your flash you end up with the photo that looks like film. The flash on your camera and the paper work together to expose the actual photo that the artist was trying make known. To add to that, there is a series of statues of men. This is inspired by a photo that was taken of diamond miners being strip searched for their "daily medical check" and then put into bronze so that is was more universally relatable. Finally, the picture that looks like a cell is the floor as you walk into the bathrooms on the main floor. They are supposed to represent skin cells and as you walk on them you are cutting them as if someone got a cut on their skin and then as you walk away the skin automatically begins to heal or repair itself and is different every time just like the real skin that is on our bodies.
