Controlled
On the morning dog walk in Ottobeuren's Bannwald forest, saw strange pink spray markings on the ground next to the drink water pumping station which just around the corner were explained by this truck, a tracked drilling machine and lots of holes and big pipes. The water supply to an outlying village is being renewed.
According to the signs and writing on the truck, it all happens using guided horizontal drilling. The poor angler in the boat is not about to have his lake emptied and fish stolen - he is following the drill bit with an electronic finder. The companies website, strangely also in English, shows it better.
l make no apology for my Brexit observations as I think it could be interesting to see how some of the antics (on both sides) are viewed from abroad. I am not directing the comments at any group and am fully aware that there are similar problems throughout the whole of Europe, even in Bavaria, a generally great supporter of the EU.
I was amazed today to hear far much on German radio and TV when this years Physics Nobel Prize winners were announced. There was no mention at all on UK's Sky News. Have to ask yourself if the UK is ashamed of the fact that the three UK winners all live and work in the USA and were all part of the "Brain Drain"of the 70s when the UK was following policies driving talent out of the country. The fact that two of the three are also Scottish, probably rubs even more salt in the wounds.
The day was topped off by reports from the Conservative Party conference. Seem that ministers are digging a very big vertical hole with no real idea what they are looking for and where the limit is. Would it not be more sensible to send out some appeasing signals rather than the headline, populist, spiteful nonsense that is being spluttered out of the hole.
I will be checking to see if my one speeding and two parking fines in the UK count as being enough to refuse me entry. Hopefully they might put a 25 year statute of limitations on such offences, in which case I can sleep in peace.
And if anyone wants a great UK company to drill vertical holes with the aim of doing something useful with the water, I can recommend a company based in Sussex but won't link as that is outside my understanding of the Blip general rules of decent conduct.
However my day was saved by fantastic news from Sussex..
