Cloyne 3: Angels

Just back from a very full on three days in east Cork, Cloyne to be precise. Rather sadly I went on my own as Himself had twinged his back in cleaning the woodburner. We hoped he would be okay to travel but when the time came he decided to pass and I went off - things having been paid for and arranged. I met up with pals R & F and we had a ball of a time. Cloyne is pretty quiet but it does have a remarkable round tower and huge cavernous cathedral. And it has the most fabulous B7B, run by a delightful Albanian couple. Big airy rooms, power showers, comfy beds and delicious breakfasts.
Over the two days we managed to find 10 holy wells - some extremely challenging, some in fantastic magical settings, some rather over manicured and some neglected, and actually two seemed to have disappeared altogether. We met some wonderful people, were given cups to take with us to the well, were led over fields and given sticks to fight off cattle, were given directions by a man with no teeth and  thick accent and learnt the sad story of how some little carved images were removed from a well by archaeologists, much to the keeper of the well's upset.
Poor Himself meanwhile had not improved as hoped and was having a miserable time. I abandoned plans to head to Youghal and came home, purchasing a bagful of medication the way. Poor chap, he is in a lot of pain but we managed to get into the doctor's and he has been injected and prescribed an array of stuff. A slipped back. Ouch. Hopefully these will work pretty quickly.
