Musical Olympics
Did you know that the Olympic Games used to include competitions in Music and Literature? We heard about this at the Sunday afternoon concert of the Corbridge Chamber Music Festival. The musicians chose a programme of works composed in various Olympic years including some real show stoppers like the Ravel Tzigane.
For the Finale we heard the Flight of the Bumblebee played as a relay between 6 performers. Then the wonderful Ben Frith played the Minute Waltz against the clock and won! He and all the performers received special Olympic medals presented by their children.
It was such a fun afternoon with a very high standard of music making.
We have to wait another year to hear them in Corbridge again.
