George V Post Box @ Ettrick
I spotted this old now unused box after climbing Ward Law, my second of three Marilyns today in South Scotland. My second of four HuMPs.
This box was last used in 1990 when the Ettrick Post Office became a home to its present owners who are now in their seventies. George V boxes were made between 1910 and 1936. The current owner stated that this was the second box that the post office had. Post had been collected from here since the 1840s.
1986 ETTRICK POSTAL SERVICES.
The post office is very small and is part of a small shop.It has a girobank, sells stamps, people can pay electricity bills and get pensions or family allowances. People can post letters and get airogrammes. The postman comes from Selkirk which is 18 miles away. He comes to the post office around 10am, then he goes West up the valley. He comes back East and gets to the post office around 12 noon. Then he collects the post and has a cup of tea, after the tea he goes back to Selkirk. He only goes South up Tima Valley on a Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, any other day he leaves the post for Tima Valley at the post office. Everyday he goes to every house apart from the ones up Tima Valley.
