Somme Whistle

This whistle was last used in the battle of Somme. I had the privilege of using it for our school's sports day on the 100th anniversary of the start of the battle (Today!).
It belonged to the grand father of one of our kid's grandad. He served in both world wars and had been gassed at Somme. Mr Pratt (Grandad) can remember the smell and taste of all the sticky gunck that had built up in it and decided that it was time to clean it out and see if it still worked. He was very happy for it to be used for a friendly, peaceful event after all this years....on this anniversary day in particular. :)
It did make a lovely clear sound! :)
