Let Me Rest

Just let me rest awhile
Mother dear
Let me sleep some more
While you sit near

We had a great time
You and I
And Oh but how quickly
The hours flew by

When we galloped across
That wide meadow green
All my stable companions
Thought it a scream

As they watched me run
Saw me pick up my pace
They found great amusement
At the terror on your face

And then there was the fence,
That crosspole and bar,
It was so funny when you flew
Oh my! Didn't you go far

Oh, but now I'm so tired
Not from working too hard
But from playing catch with you
Mum, you really are a card

But now is the time
To sit here and rest
I really must admit
Today was The Best!
