Wells for Zoe Handed Over 32 Shallow Wells in Rumphi

An international organization called Wells for ZOE Malawi on Thursday handed over 32 shallow wells in the community’s of Nkhamanga in Bolero Rumphi.
The hand over ceremony took place at warwe area in the paramount chief chikulamayembe.
Speaking during the hand over ceremony acting country director of Wells for ZOE Malawi,Harisen Amin said his organization decided to sung the shallow wells in Bolero, after noticing the challenges the communities were facing specially women to fetch for clean and portable water in the area.
“There was so many cases of cholera and other water borne diseases during the rainy season in the area because most the communities used to fetch water in rivers to use for domestic purposes.”
Speaking on behalf of Tumbuka king Themba la ma Themba,Chikulamayembe, Principal village head Man Kamzinga Chenda MKandawire,thanked Wells for ZOE for providing his subjects with clean water and advised his people to take extra care of shallow wells so that it can go a long way providing clean water to them.
“Don’t use shallow wells only for drinking water,use them again for irrigating crops so that each and every households should have enough food for consumption to avoid looming hunger lamented the representative of senior chief chikulamayembe.
Wells for Zoe encourages community’s to sung wells and they provide cement,pumps and the capacity to construct the wells.
Since its genesis in Malawi wells for Zoe has managed 4000 pumps and it has helped over 1millon Malawians by providing clean water to them.
The objective of Wells for Zoe is to provide clean water to the community of Malawi and across.
Currently wells for Zoe is operating in all District in the northern region and some areas in the central and southern region of Malawi.

Karonga and Rumphi worst hit by cholera outbreak
Cholera continues to wreak havoc in the northern region with Rumphi and Karonga reportedly the worst hit.
The cholera outbreak is severe at Ngara and Chilumba in Karonga lakeshore areas as well as at Chitimba in Rumphi where cholera patients are receiving treatment in complete isolation from other patients.

The quarantine measures have been applied in all the health centres where cases have been reported.
In Rumphi, other Cholera outbreak cases were reported at Luwuchi a week ago while Mlowe Health Centre registered its first case on Monday this week and the situation is gradually getting serious each day despite the quarantine measures currently in place when treating cholera patients.
Residents around Mlowe Health Centre yesterday expressed satisfaction with the way Mlowe Health Centre is handling the outbreak but also expressed fears that the situation could worsen owing to inadequate supply of medical drugs in view of the outbreak.
This is the first cholera outbreak in Mlowe adjacent areas of Zowo and Luwuchi in the past 45 years.
