Branklyn Gardens
Some years ago we won Life Membership in a raffle for the National Trust for Scotland and this is a great incentive to go and visit some of Scotland's hidden gems.
The Branklyn Garden in Perth is one of them. This is described as "The finest two acres of private garden in the country".
Well that is some claim and it comes from the Regius Keeper of the Royal Botanic Garden in Edinburgh.
We went with high expectations this afternoon. It has over 3,500 plants many of them rare and collected by the original owner Dorothy and John Renton from the great plant hunters of their day who went out to China, the Himalayas, Tibet and Bhutan.
The result is an amazing garden that looks more like a slice of a tropical rainforest yet here it is in Scotland.
Photos do not do it justice. But I have put some in Branklyn gardens blipfolio hopefully to give you a flavour of this remarkable horticultural treasure.
