River Traffic !

This morning I strolled along by the river Cam. Sunshine and clouds with a short shower of rain as I arrived home. The council intends to have a massive clearout of houseboats, some of which are not licensed to moor. A few others look quite tatty. Those you can see moored to the railings on Riverside, have to be moved because of safety concerns. The owners have to climb over the railings to get to land. The other bank is taken up by private gardens and boathouses. The river Cam is now one of the busiest stretches of inland water in the UK. Rowing activity has increased and there are now well over 1,000 craft packed into a 14 mile stretch of water. There's hardly any room left to sit on the river bank or for the anglers. Also the holidaymakers in narrowboats  have nowhere to moor for a day or two to enjoy our historical city. These concerns are being addressed. I have often thought that if anyone was in difficulties after a boat capsized, it would be difficult to rescue them. You can also see the cycle/footbridge in this view that leads across the old Pye recreation ground, to Chesterton.
