A bit weepy
I had no idea it was National Fungus Day when I set off on another long walk but finding myself in the soggy-bottomed wooded valley a few miles to the south I had a minor foray of my own and was rewarded with several interesting finds, sadly none edible. (Although, as mycologists are wont to say when the perennial query is made, anything is edible once.)
This is Inototus dryadeus or weeping oak bracket, a parasitic fungus that exudes drops of amber liquid that looks like maple syrup. It's not.
