Pink Footed Geese
We decided to have a weekend in Northumberland to go orienteering at Simonside on Saturday and Slaley Hall on Sunday, We left Edinburgh in the evening and stopped overnight just north of Budle Bay. There was almost constant honking of geese overhead and quite a few skeins were seen in the early morning. We had breakfast and went to Budle Bay to see the birds. There were large numbers of Pink Footed Geese, (or they may be Greylag; I can’t really tell them apart), and these are 3 near the shore. There were also large numbers of Shelduck and somewhat fewer Redshank. The light was a bit flat, but the birdlife terrific. The orienteering was also good and I really enjoyed my course.
