Frosty Bonnet
In honour of Tiny Tuesday, I'm giving this minute fungus pride of place in my journal. Chris and I had a few hours pottering around Bedford Purlieus NNR with our cameras, and I think this was possibly the smallest fungus we encountered, the cap less than five millimetres across. You can get some idea of the scale from the orange object just below, which is a birch seed. I believe this is a Frosty Bonnet Mycena adscendens, quite common but often overlooked!
A few other autumnal images are included in the extras:
Emerging Trumpet Chanterelles Cantharellus tubaeformis
Sweet Chestnut seed with case
Deep red Brittlecap Russula on a bed of Common Tamarisk-Moss
