AP Psychology Photo Journal 2
What is going on in the photo?
This is a picture of a hat that says Keep Vermont Weird on it. I got it while I was on a vacation to Vermont with my friend, Makayla. I had never been before, so she showed me the coolest places to go and while we were walking through the mall, we came across a small Keep Vermont Weird shop, where she got me this sweet hat. (67)
How is it related to a specific psychology concept from the current or previous units?
This hat relates to mood-congruent memories. These are memories that are tied with a certain feeling that cause one to recall other memories with the same feeling. This can also affect their mood at any given time. For example, this hat reminds me of my trip to Vermont, which I associate with happy, fun memories. This causes me to remember other fun times that I've had with Makayla, which in turn makes me happy because I remember how much fun I have with her. (84)
Link the image to one of the perspectives of psychology with an explanation of how it relates.
This hat could be an example of the cognitive perspective of psychology, which is a study of people's thoughts and how they think. Memory itself is related with the cognitive perspective because it's all about not only someone's thoughts themselves, but how people behave because of them. Some of these thoughts could very well be memories. A psychologist studying the cognitive perspective could ask me what thoughts are making me feel happy, and I would be able to say that the memories from this hat are causing those feelings. (89)
