In the 1960's I used to regularly look out for Jane Bown's black and white portraits that appeared in the Observer. If I remember correctly they used to feature on the back page of the Sunday supplement, though I could be wrong. She'd switched from a Rolleiflex to a Pentax SLR by then, and was probably influential in my choice of Pentax for my first SLR (she later switched to an Olympus OM-1).
She used to walk to her London photographic assignments, camera in hand, photographing cats that she found along the way, and a collection of these has just been published by Guardian Books and my copy turned up on this day.
"If animals could speak, the dog would be a blundering outspoken fellow; but the cat would have the rare grace of never saying a word too much." - Mark Twain (as quoted on the book's rear cover).

David Bowie - It's Gonna Be Me (recorded August 1974, Sigma Sound, Philadelphia PA)
Intended for the album Young Americans, incredibly this great track was one of two tracks dropped in favour of Bowie's collaborations with John Lennon, Fame and Across The Universe. It was included as a bonus track on a CD reissue of the album and has now re-appeared on a lavish box set, Who Can I Be Now? (1974–1976), as from The Gouster, an early version of the album.
