Can Rafa
Relaxed breakfast in the hotel - good to be on the receiving side for a change! Part of our ritual when we're here, and usually on our last day, is walking round the newly built properties and the more settled ones and checking out all the changes. We did that for a couple of hours today. Goodness knows why we're so interested in all the details but we are: patio space v garage entrance space, window sizes, stair details, views, privacy, old versus new, you name it we talked about it. Where would we buy a property if we won el gordo? Old or new? Centre of the village or a bit out? Then we had the treat of not having to drive back to Bcn, so we could enjoy lunch before catching the bus back at 5pm. We chose to go to Can Rafa, a very well established restaurant on the front and owned by one of the families who own quite a few places in the area and they also have their own wine from their vineyards. They do things well. The grandmother sat at a corner table tucking into a large plate of sardines and looking very well for her years. One of Rafa's sons has taken over the running of the place and has the charm and service mentality to carry it off. His young wife, pregnant with their first son, was waiting the tables. We commented that you don't just marry the son, but marry the family and lifestyle. The fish was incredibly fresh and if you don't like fish (Omwadi) this place isn't for you! As customers ordered their fish, they were carried with the tail still flapping through the restaurant from the front to the kitchen. We had tiny clams in garlic and parsley with pan con tomate to start, then shared grilled calamares and a plate of fried fish. All delicious! Then back to the hotel for our trolley bags and to the bus for our 5pm bus back to Bcn. We're considering another wee trip back in the next few weeks.
