U-Bahn München: 78/100 Prinzregentenplatz
Munich Underground: 78/100 Prinzregentenplatz
Today's entry in my strictly alphabetical Munich underground series is Prinzregentenplatz underground station. The station, like the square under which it is located, is named after Luitpold, Prince Regent (Prinzregent) of Bavaria, the de facto ruler of Bavaria from 1886 to 1912.
With the bright Carrara marble cover of the walls and pillars, the station is worthy of being the stop of Prinzregententheater, a Richard Wagner opera house and theatre, which is located on top of it. Altogether Prinzregentenplatz underground station is characterised by sharp bright-dark contrasts, rectangular shapes, and straight lines.
The design - especially the light - somehow reminds me of Neuperlach Zentrum underground station.
