63395

When the locomotive pulls in on platform one at Pickering, there is usually a frenzy of activity amongst queueing photographers. Today I had no competition and the light was obliging. It still meant an ISO setting of 6400 but the subject matter was still. I like the subtle reflective glow from the firebox on the metalwork behind the fireman.

The Q6 63395 was an unglamorous freight workhorse that ran the tracks of the North East of England for fifty years. It was one of the very few pre-grouping steam locomotives to survive right up to the end of steam on British Railways.
