Unknown Warehouse

Down in Salamander Street this row of pipes and taps facing the roadside is quite impressive. Does anyone know what material was being transfered?

Edit: Miss Flum has been researching the old maps and eststablished that, in the 1960's, this was part of a complex owned by Scottish Agricultural Industries Ltd. as a Fertiliser store. The Edinburgh Gazette of the time refers to a packing plant. I still don't know how the system worked, though.
