Troy

This is Troy being driven by a Learner Driver!  Last Christmas I was wondering what to give my lovely husband for his present and had an idea - he likes vintage tractors - in fact he is renovating one he found in a barn in the middle of nowhere (as you do).  So I found a farm in the Lake District that offers 'experience' days with vintage tractors and, as so happens, heavy horses. When we actually got around to booking a date, John opted for the heavy horse 'experience' and ploughing.  That is what we have done today - with me as 'photographer'!

The horses are adorable and BIG!  The horse shown in the blip, Troy, is 19.2 hands high and that is very BIG apparently! This was the one John was being taught how to control with the plough as well - OK it was a small plough but there is a lot to be done and that horse is strong. A lovely chap, also called John, had come along to supervise this session and what he didn't know about horses isn't worth knowing - we had several long and interesting conversations and the stories he could tell... wonderful!

We finished off the day with a drive down the coast towards Barrow in Furness - at the end of this peninsula there is Piel Island - with a wonderful ruined castle. Unfortunately you need a ferry to get to the island which runs April to September and it's currently October.  Hey ho - another time.  I did find a wonderful rusty wreck close by (extra) though which was worth a bit of slipping and sliding on the seaweedy rocks.

Now in our hotel/pub and making use of their wifi.
